Week 2 - Discussion Question 1
An orator that I’ve had the pleasure to watch and listen to is Neil deGrasse Tyson. Mr. Tyson initially came to my attention in 2009 when he did an interview about the celestial body called Pluto, and America’s desire for this object in space to be called a planet. It was quite the entertaining interview, as not only was the subject amusing, but also the manner in which Mr. Tyson established and supported his credibility and perspective. Mr. Tyson has worked with PBS as a host of the show Nova ScienceNow, as well as worked with many congressional and governmental agencies with educating people about science and space. One of the reasons Mr. Tyson has been chosen for these many positions is his ability to convey understanding of the subject matter in very effective ways. He has a deep and powerful voice that grabs your attention, and the occasional joke he tells while speaking keeps the listener engaged and attentive. I find myself watching his speeches and interviews time and again, not only because of the subject matter, but also because Mr. Tyson is in my opinion an orator worthy of the name.
